Short Gap
Volunteer Fire Company

Welcome to the Short Gap Volunteer Fire Company Website. Short Gap VFC sevices are Fire, Rescue, and EMS. We have 5 units to serve the public. 3 of our units are Fire/Rescue and 2 Ambulances.
The Short Gap Volunteer Fire Company was established in 1946 with just a handful of volunteers. At that point in history, the fire company was running just a mere 20 calls a year with the first fire engine puchased for the Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Department. This unit was being housed at members homes until land was found to begin building a little block station on a dirt road called Knobley Road. Since that time in 1946, the area has grown in population and we now house 2 fire engines, a brush unit, and 2 ambulances at our new 4 bay station built in 1998. We currently have 62 volunteers, both firefighters and EMT's, along with associate and auxiliary members that help us to be able to respond to over 500 calls a year.
